1819 Innovation Hub to honor patent winners
Inaugural patent recognition awards and reception will celebrate University of Cincinnati's inventors
The University of Cincinnati will celebrate the success of UC inventors when the 1819 Innovation Hub hosts the inaugural Patent Recognition Awards on Tuesday, March 5 from 4 to 6 p.m.
The event will honor innovators in the UC community who secured patents for their ideas in 2018. The broader UC and Cincinnati business communities are encouraged to attend and connect with the honorees. Food and refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP by no later than Friday, March 1, by emailing innovation@uc.edu.
UC is unleashing its vision of leading public urban universities into a new era of innovation and impact. Innovation is one of the three main components of Next Lives Here, the university's strategic direction.

App turns smartwatch into detector of structural heart disease

An app that uses an AI model to read a single-lead ECG from a smartwatch can detect structural heart disease, researchers reported at the 2025 Scientific Sessions of the American Heart Association. Although the technology requires further validation, researchers said it could help improve the identification of patients with heart failure, valvular conditions and left ventricular hypertrophy before they become symptomatic, which could improve the prognosis for people with these conditions.
Duo authentication changes coming January 2026
