UC student talks about importance of voting

Anthropology student shares her perspective with WVXU

A University of Cincinnati student was a guest on WVXU public radio's podcast “Democracy & Me“ to talk about the importance of voting on Election Day.

UC College of Arts and Sciences student Lindsay Person spoke to host and UC classmate Lauryn Howery, a communication major, about voting and first-time voters. Howery also hosts a weekly radio show on Bearcast Media called “I Said What I Said“ that explores film and film soundtracks.

Person said voting might be intimidating to first-time voters, including students at UC. But it's easy to find out where and how to vote, including options such as mail-in voting, she said.

And she recommends doing some simple research on the candidates and any ballot questions before going to the polls or filling out a mail-in ballot.

“What do you want in your government? What do you value? Do some research to see if any candidates support the same things you care about,“ she said.

Person said voting is a way for her to recognize the civil liberties she and other Americans have today.

“Do you know how many people fought for you to have the right to vote? It's such a long history,“ she said.
