"Once a Bearcat, always a Bearcat — that’s why I’ll be repping the black and red for life"
For Cashmere Wright, being a Bearcat isn’t just about game days at Fifth Third Arena. It’s a mindset, a set of values, and a lifelong community that continues to shape how he lives, works, and coaches today.
A foundation built at UC
Cashmere Wright arrived at the University of Cincinnati with big dreams on the basketball court—but what he gained went far beyond wins and stats.
“The University of Cincinnati shaped me on and off the court, teaching me what hard work, discipline, and community really mean,” he says.

Lessons from the court
As a student-athlete, Wright learned to grind every day, to trust his teammates, and to compete with pride.
That Bearcat mentality — discipline, teamwork, resilience — stayed with him long after graduation. “Being a Bearcat for life means more than just cheering for Cincinnati — it’s who I am,” he explains.
Carrying the Bearcat mentality forward
Today, Wright channels that same energy and focus as head coach of the varsity basketball team at Walnut Hills and as a physical education teacher at Pleasant Ridge Montessori.
Whether he’s coaching on the sidelines or teaching in the classroom, his goal is the same: to build future leaders and model the values of hard work, perseverance, and community.
Repping the red and black for life
For Wright, being a Bearcat is about more than the jersey you wear. It’s about carrying those values into everything you do—pushing through adversity, leading with integrity, and always representing Cincinnati with pride.
