CCM presents "The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical" Oct. 23-25
Featuring a thrilling original rock score, the musical is an action-packed mythical adventure
UC College-Conservatory of Music's 2025-26 theatre season continues with The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, playing Oct. 23-25, 2025 in Patricia Corbett Theater.
Adapted from the best-selling novel The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and featuring a thrilling original rock score with music and lyrics by Rob Rokicki and book by Joe Tracz, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is an action-packed mythical adventure for audiences of all ages. Presented as part of CCM's Musical Theatre Series, the production is directed by CCM Professor Rachel Stevens with choreography by CCM Professor Jessica Harris and music direction by CCM graduate student Rosamund Hencinski.
As the half-blood son of a Greek god, Percy Jackson has newly-discovered powers he can't control, a destiny he doesn't want and a mythology textbook's worth of monsters on his trail. When Zeus' master lightning bolt is stolen and Percy becomes the prime suspect, he has to find and return the bolt to prove his innocence and prevent a war between the gods. He must travel to the Underworld and back; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and come to terms with the father who abandoned him.
CCM's production features a background of LED screens to show the mythical settings and environments of the story. Media Designer Maddi Myer's creations will be on the screens as part of the set. Audiences can preview her design in CCM's promotional video for the musical, which was filmed in the college's new Extended Reality (XR) Studio.
The musical also features stage combat and creature effects to bring this coming-of-age adventure from the page to the stage. The story uses magic and fantasy as a tool to talk about real world struggles. While it is a family-friendly show, the production contains sequences of simulated violence and themes of grief and loss. Strobe lights and other bright and flashing lights are also used in the performance.
Join us for CCM Musical Theatre Series' performances of The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical on Oct. 23-25. Tickets are on sale now through the CCM Box Office — discounts available for UC and CCM students, faculty and staff.
CCM Alumni Pre-Show Reception: Join us at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24 for a special reception welcoming UC and CCM alumni back to campus during Homecoming! Advance registration is required by Oct. 20.

App turns smartwatch into detector of structural heart disease

An app that uses an AI model to read a single-lead ECG from a smartwatch can detect structural heart disease, researchers reported at the 2025 Scientific Sessions of the American Heart Association. Although the technology requires further validation, researchers said it could help improve the identification of patients with heart failure, valvular conditions and left ventricular hypertrophy before they become symptomatic, which could improve the prognosis for people with these conditions.
