UC Journalism to host Hall of Fame, Young Alumni Awards
Graduates recognized for their impact on journalism and UC
The College of Arts and Sciences’ journalism department will host the Hall of Fame and Young Alumni Awards to celebrate the achievements and accomplishments of its graduates.
Induction into the UC Journalism Hall of Fame is a special honor reserved for UC alumni who have excelled in the profession of journalism and media, or individuals who have made a significant contribution to journalism at UC.
Being included in the hall of fame is a great achievement, as past honorees include notable individuals like William Strunk, Jr. Strunk, a graduate of UC in 1890, is well-known for his stylebook, "The Elements of Style," used by journalists, writers and editors all over the world.
It brings us so much joy to reconnect with alumni who return to campus to receive these awards.

This year’s hall of fame honorees includes David Altman (1968,1974), Kristy Conlin (2009),Tony Cook (2003), and Glenn Gamboa (1989).
Also to be honored at the ceremony are individuals receiving the Young Alumni Award. These honorees are recent graduates that have succeeded in their early careers and are growing to become seasoned journalists.
“UC Journalism’s Young Alumni Award honors graduates with the B.A. degree in Journalism, or Journalism certificate, whose careers are ‘on the rise’ with potential for Hall of Fame induction later in their careers,” Jeffrey Blevins said. Blevins serves as the interim head of the journalism department.
The 2025 Young Alumni honorees include Keith BieryGolick (2013), Bethany Cianciolo (2013), Carly Hagedon (2011), Jason Hoffman (2013), and Eamon Queeney (2011).
“Our annual awards program is such a happy occasion for the Department of Journalism because our students and alumni are so central to why we do what we do,” Jenny Wohlfarth said. Wohlfarth is a professor in the journalism department. “We love getting this opportunity to celebrate their efforts and their accomplishments, and it brings us so much joy to reconnect with alumni who return to campus to receive these awards.”
This year’s ceremony will take place on April 24, 2025, from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Charles Phelps Taft Research Center. The celebration is free and open to the public.
