Join Campus Recreation's #RecAtHome challenge to get 5 million minutes of movement in May.

Mix up your workouts in May. Campus Recreation has joined the 2020 Recreation Movement, which encourages colleges and universities to come together to stay healthy and active. 

The 2020 Recreation Movement website provides multiple, free resources that can be utilized to accomplish movement goals. For example,

  • Access to a large library of workout-videos and wellness sessions from campus rec centers across the country. Videos can be broken down by school or format in order to find what is needed for the movement goals.
  • A live-streaming daily movement calendar. 
  • TikTok movement and skill challenges. Check out the #RECATHOME TikTok channel for live updates, streaming and daily challenges.

More than 60 colleges and universities are already participating and have collectively logged more than 1.2 million minutes. UC has newly joined this initiative, organized by NIRSA, the governing body for Campus Recreation. The overall goal is to come together to achieve 5 million movements by the end of May. 

Sigining up is easy. Create an account using your .edu email address and instantly access live and prerecorded workout, fitness and movement classes.

  • Click “Sign up” at the top right-hand corner of the page, or find the sign-up icon in the middle of the page on the left hand side.
  • Fill out name and email. Make sure to use the university’s “.edu” email, and choose your school.

Log all minutes at the top of the page, using the “Log Movement” button. Select the type of movement, and use the slider to indicate movement minutes ranging from 0-120 minutes. Watch as your school's total minutes stack up against other participating schools.

App turns smartwatch into detector of structural heart disease

An app that uses an AI model to read a single-lead ECG from a smartwatch can detect structural heart disease, researchers reported at the 2025 Scientific Sessions of the American Heart Association. Although the technology requires further validation, researchers said it could help improve the identification of patients with heart failure, valvular conditions and left ventricular hypertrophy before they become symptomatic, which could improve the prognosis for people with these conditions.
