Two UC students honored as experience-based learning all-stars
Eads and George earn recognition for taking advantage of opportunities
Each spring, the University of Cincinnati's Division of Experience-Based Learning and Career Education honors students in experience-based learning programs.
The following students have taken advantage of the depth and breadth of experiential learning opportunities at UC and are being honored this year for outstanding achievement. Their stories help to illustrate why the University of Cincinnati is the number one public university for co-ops and internships.
Josh Eads, Health Sciences
Sophomore Josh Eads has taken a number of opportunities to explore professional paths – gaining self-awareness and transferable skills along the way. After taking an introductory Exploring Health Professions course, he completed a nine-month internship at the Physical Medicine and Wellness Center of Northern Kentucky. He volunteers at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and is engaged in undergraduate research with UC anthropology professor Heather Norton, PhD. Josh also holds an on-campus co-op as a Peer Leader in the Learning Commons. Josh’s experiences have influenced him to change his major and pursue a career in physical therapy.
Alena George, Communication
George says her co-op experience allowed her to network, gain valuable skills and experience, and opened the door to a full-time job with P&G
Busy senior Alena George will earn a bachelor’s degree in Communication with minors in Electronic Media and Asian Studies and certificates in Public Relations and Film Studies. Alena has worked hard at UC, completing co-op assignments with Vector Solutions, BHDP Architecture and P&G. In addition, she interned for the Anthony Muñoz Foundation, completed a faculty-led study tour in Japan and studied abroad as an exchange student at Korea University in South Korea. After graduation, Alena will work for P&G full-time as a Site Integrated Planner for North America APDO, planning production for Gillette, Secret and Old Spice.
Faculty and staff in Experience-Based Learning and Career Education facilitate real-world work experiences for students, teach students to prepare for their professional lives, and provide career services to students and alumni. At the same time, we connect employers and external partners with the talent they seek in a variety of arrangements both inside and outside the classroom.

University of Cincinnati alumni Mohammad H. Qayoumi, MS ’79, MS ’80, MBA ’84, PhD ’83 and Najia Karim, BS ’82, MEd ’83, RD, have made a $4 million gift supporting two of the university’s colleges. A donation from the couple establishes a fund and an endowed chair at the College of Engineering and Applied Science, as well as an endowed chair at the College of Allied Health Sciences.
UC student finds her stride at Pig Works co-op

Pig Works race director Jeanette Kiely praises UC co-op students like Dylan Eggleton for their professionalism, flexibility and readiness to take hands-on roles in major Cincinnati race events such as the Flying Pig Marathon. Kiely says UC students are well prepared and eager to learn.
