UC Staff Senate nominations now open
Share your voice and help make a difference as a UC Staff Senate member for new two-year term

Nominations are open now, to hold a two-year seat in UC's Staff Senate — the advisory body to the president of the university and university administration.
Nominations opened on March 13, and will close on April 15.
To be eligible to serve in the senate you must be a current staff member and not principally charged with teaching students.
To nominate yourself or a colleague as a candidate for Staff Senate, complete the nomination form within the Bearcats Landing intranet site to nominate yourself or another eligible staff member to serve on the senate. Note that nominated staff members will have the option to accept or decline their nomination and nominated candidates must have approval from their direct manager/supervisor.
"As a staff member, you will help bring an equitable diversity to the university's direction, helping to raise the institution to a new level of service and preeminence," says Chris Collins, chair of UC's Staff Senate.

As a senator you are expected to:
- Attend all senate meetings (minimum of five per year)
- Attend monthly committee meetings (as needed by your assigned committee)
- Participate in other various events based on availability
- Must have prior approval from your manager/supervisor
All seats will hold a two-year term. Read the senate bylaws.

Staff Senate will host online “office hours” via WebEx from noon to 1 p.m. every Wednesday. Each week, a fellow staff senator will be available via WebEx to discuss any feedback or questions you would like to be addressed through Staff Senate. App turns smartwatch into detector of structural heart disease

An app that uses an AI model to read a single-lead ECG from a smartwatch can detect structural heart disease, researchers reported at the 2025 Scientific Sessions of the American Heart Association. Although the technology requires further validation, researchers said it could help improve the identification of patients with heart failure, valvular conditions and left ventricular hypertrophy before they become symptomatic, which could improve the prognosis for people with these conditions.
