Hundreds of jobs in play at UC Spring Career Fair

Upcoming events help students prepare

About 300 companies and organizations will be on campus to recruit UC students and alumni for co-op and full-time jobs at the University of Cincinnati's Spring Professional and Technical Career Fair on Feb. 11-13 at the Campus Recreation Center.

About 120 different employers will attend the fair each day.

On Tuesday, Feb. 11, employers will recruit for positions in accounting, communications, customer service, data analytics, finance, logistics, management, marketing, operations, public relations, sales and other fields.

On Wednesday, Feb. 12, and Thursday, Feb. 13, employers will look for candidates for jobs in engineering, manufacturing, construction, computer science, information technology and related fields.

All three days, job-seekers will present themselves as candidates for specific positions or general hiring while talking with recruiters about job openings and what it is like to work at the company or organization.

On Friday, students return for in-person interviews. At last year’s spring event, 52 employers interviewed about 600 UC students, many of whom got jobs as a result.

Students encouraged to prepare

Not every employer is a good match for every job-seeker, so it’s important for students to research employers in advance to find out what they are looking for. UC students and alumni can easily do this anytime using UC’s career platform Handshake, where users can view the fair, filter the list of employers and save their favorites.

Students also can take advantage of free, on-campus company information sessions. In these informal events, representatives come to campus to meet students and talk about hiring trends, company culture and qualifications. Company information sessions are posted in Handshake as they are confirmed.

Students should also take time to prepare themselves for the fair – polishing their resume, practicing a self-introduction, and planning what to wear. Whether this is a student's first or fifth career fair, this kind of preparation calms nerves and can make the student more successful.

Students have several chances to prepare:

  • The new Bearcat Promise Career Studio in TUC 310 will host a number of workshops and walk-in resume reviews the week of Feb. 3. Students can find them listed in Handshake under “Event Search" using keyword phrase “Prepare for the Fair.”
  • CEAS Tribunal will host a Resume Review Day on Feb. 7, where company representatives will offer feedback on students’ resumes.
  • Lindner Career Services will host a similar event ("Resupalooza”) on Feb. 10 for College of Business students.
