President Pinto offers bicentennial reflections on the gratitude UC owes to its hometown
As the University of Cincinnati approaches the final weeks of its Bicentennial celebration, its president wrote a thank you “note” to the city that gave birth to it. President Neville Pinto’s op-ed appeared in The Cincinnati Enquirer’s Sunday edition on Oct. 6.
“The University of Cincinnati cannot let this moment pass without extending our biggest thanks to you — the City of Cincinnati and the amazing people who call it home. We owe our all to you,” Pinto said.
Pinto also noted how the city and the university are both better striving together in concert - "then, now and forever forward."
“Perhaps the best part of UC’s start-up story is, ironically, the most often overlooked," he opined. "We are not simply a university in Cincinnati. We are the University of Cincinnati. We are founded by Cincinnatians to serve this vibrant community, first and always.”
UC’s Bicentennial wraps up with a huge party 200 years in the making. Everyone in the UC family is invited to the Bicentennial Bash in Fifth Third Arena on Friday evening, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. There will be food, beverages, swag, and entertainment by the Sly Band and DJ ETrayn. The next day features the 2019 Homecoming with a parade and football game.

University of Cincinnati alumni Mohammad H. Qayoumi, MS ’79, MS ’80, MBA ’84, PhD ’83 and Najia Karim, BS ’82, MEd ’83, RD, have made a $4 million gift supporting two of the university’s colleges. A donation from the couple establishes a fund and an endowed chair at the College of Engineering and Applied Science, as well as an endowed chair at the College of Allied Health Sciences.
