UCPD to apply for accreditation, assessment team invites public comment

The University of Cincinnati Police Division is excited to announce that the division has applied to become accredited by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement.

Agencies accredited by IACLEA adhere to the highest professional standards. IACLEA-accredited institutions must meet more than 210 standards that reflect the best professional requirements and practices for campus public safety agencies. The state-of-the-art standards are in four basic areas: policy and procedures; administration; operations; and support services.

“My goal is to make the UCPD the finest campus police department in the country. Becoming accredited with IACLEA is another meaningful step the division has taken in the past few years towards that goal. We look forward to working with the assessors,” said UCPD Chief Maris Herold.

A team of assessors will be at the University of Cincinnati from Sept. 28-Nov. 1. The public, and agency employees, are invited to call 513-556-3013 from 1-3 p.m., on Monday, September 30, to offer comments, which will be taken by the assessors. Comments must address the department’s ability to comply with IACLEA’s standards. The IACLEA Accreditation Standards Manual is available on the IACLEA website (www.iaclea.org).

Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the UCPD’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to IACLEA, 1110 Bonifant Street, Suite 300, Silver Spring, Maryland, 20910. To speak with someone in the IACLEA office, please call 855-442-2532.

Accreditation is for four years, during which time the department must submit annual reports attesting to continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
