The university's work to ensure students graduate with a strong career plan gains regional audience
Incoming students to the University of Cincinnati are getting their first glimpse of “Bearcat Promise” during orientation this summer.
The rollout represents not only new tools but also a philosophical shift and commitment by the university to all students that they will graduate with a degree in one hand and a career plan in the other.
The Cincinnati Business Courier covered this important development in their June 3 edition.
“This is really a commitment to our students that we will provide the resources, the tools and the expertise to co-design their future,” says Caroline Miller, vice provost of enrollment management. “A career choice is not as simple as the major you choose. Knowing the purpose behind your plan will help students graduate and stay on time.”

University of Cincinnati alumni Mohammad H. Qayoumi, MS ’79, MS ’80, MBA ’84, PhD ’83 and Najia Karim, BS ’82, MEd ’83, RD, have made a $4 million gift supporting two of the university’s colleges. A donation from the couple establishes a fund and an endowed chair at the College of Engineering and Applied Science, as well as an endowed chair at the College of Allied Health Sciences.
