UC commences Bicentennial celebration
University announces 2019 events and marks charter week
UC kicked off its Bicentennial year with a reception on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the UC College of Medicine. This event coincided with UC’s Charter Week, honoring the signing of the charters that founded the Medical College of Ohio on Jan. 19, 1819 and Cincinnati College on Jan. 22, 1819. UC is the 18th oldest public institution in the United States.
The kickoff celebration included the announcement of the Bicentennial Community Engagement Grant recipients, a “University of Cincinnati Bicentennial Day” proclamation from Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley and the unveiling of UC’s Virtual Reality Experience. Five virtual reality vignettes, designed by the UC Center for Simulations & Virtual Environments Research, faculty, staff and students, allow participants to experience historical moments on UC’s campus. The Virtual Reality Booth Design and Coordination was directed by UC Planning + Design + Construction with participation from students of the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. UC College of Nursing was presented with an Apple Distinguished School Award.
UC President Neville Pinto; UC College of Medicine Interim Dean Andrew Filak Jr., MD; UC College of Nursing Dean Greer Glazer, PhD; and UC trustees, faculty, students, staff and friends attended the reception marking this historic milestone. The theme of UC’s Bicentennial is Boldly Bearcat, capturing the tenacity, drive, determination and grit that characterize UC and its community.
“This Bicentennial Celebration will honor our university’s rich past, elevate its dynamic present and look forward with great anticipation to its innovative impact over the next 200 years. It's time to show the world that Next Lives Here at the University of Cincinnati.”
UC President Neville Pinto
